Rise of the Rune Lords

The very speedy, and way overdue, update of our current adventure...
By Sir Not Appearing in this Film

When we last left our adventurers they had just faced off with the first group of Goblins in the Glassworks.  But moments after the battle a new group of Goblins, led by none other that Tsuto Kaijistu, emerged.  He sent the Goblins forward, tucked tail, and bravely ran away.  After defeating the next wave of Goblins, in which I'm pretty sure one of the Goblins merely dodged and taunted you for a bit, you gave chase.  Tsuto most definitely ran the wrong way, which was totally not the DM's fault at all, and led you into a very confusing dungeon that you totally would have found on your own because the party is super awesome.

After defeating Tsuto, he surrendered, gave you some info, and he, being so very naughty in your sight, was executed.  You continued into this dungeon, fighting sin spawn, weird flying demon things, and a deformed goblin, and learning absolutely nothing about all the weird stuff going on in this very silly place, decided to go back to the Glassworks and search some more.  Not very surprisingly you found Ameiko Kaijistu, who then gave you free stay for life at the Rusty Dragon, right before you awkwardly told her what the Goblins did to her dad.  Before you left you found a very important piece of information, Tsuto's Journal, which besides the very… revealing drawings of Nualia, point you in the direction of the Goblin tribe stronghold of Thistletop.

After returning to Sandpoint to regroup and for Novelle to once again receive the honor of the attention on Aldern Foxglove, they spend the night and plan their raid of Thistletop.  Upon arriving the group finds a secret entrance and manages to get across a bridge, sneak by some Goblins, and then get to fighting inside the complex.  Along the way you find an emaciated horse, shortly after Kiirion was bit by a dog and got the rabies.  But even crazier, they found a bard named Abigail, whose party was captured and mostly killed by the goblins.  She was kept alive to amuse the hilariously named Chief Ripnugget.  Taking her along, the party managed to take all the EXACT RIGHT turns and doors, bypassing the majority of the dungeon, and finding themselves on the third level.  Kiirion, even after he made the DM aware of his "special trap-finding abilities", still managed to get himself trapped in one mother****er of a trap and then dropped into a hole unconscious.  While everyone was figuring out what the heck to do, Uldar JUST SO HAPPENS to open the door to the bad guy (technically girl) of the WHOLE FREAKING CHAPTER!  He promptly shuts the door (after much out of game discussion, so not to promptly) but before they could figure out what to do next a big, bag dog comes out and attacks them.  After a short battle where Evrain almost dies due to a seriously massive dog bite, the druid does a pretty cool thing and turns the trap to clay, pulling out Kiirion, healing him up, and exiting this area stage right.

Once back up to the top, the party makes a bold decision and goes after Ripnugget.  Since the alarm had pretty much already been sounded, he was definitely ready.  A long and poorly rolled battle ensued, to which the Druid once again did something pretty cool and sent this ball of fire rolling around chasing down the bad guys, they finally managed to slay Ripnugget and all his buddies.  Beaten, poorly supplied, and generally embarrassed and frustrated, the party decides to flee and live to fight another day.

Exploring Sandpoint, More Goblin trouble, and Beautiful Women trouble Pt 2
February 3rd, 2017

When we last left our adventurers, they had assisted Sheriff Hemlock in investigating the tomb of the late Father Ezakien Tobyn's tomb as well as dispatching two skeletons left behind by an unknown group, that included goblins and something larger than a Goblin.  Also, Tobyn's remains were missing!  After being filled in about the back story of Father Tobyn by Father Zantus and making some assumptions about who would take the remains, the group decides to sleep on it and go to the Sheriff the next day.

Before they can make it home, Amele Barett comes running up to the group with her son Aeren in her arms, goblin bites on his arms.  She tells the story that her son has been scared for nights that there was a goblin, but no one believed him until now.  Knowing the danger, the party runs to the house only to find her husband Alergast face down in the closet.  When they pulled him out, a crazed goblin jumps out of a hole, haven eaten the face and torso of Alergast off.  The group dispatched of him quickly, but not good enough for Amele, who partially blames the group for not being "thorough enough".

After reaching the Rusty Dragon and looking for a bite to eat after all the craziness of the day, Ameiko Kajitsu's father, Lonjiku, drunkenly makes a scene, nearly taking a beating from the party as well as his daughter.  He appears to be trying to get her to come back to his business, the Glassworks, but leaves with a biting remark "You're as dead to me as your mother."  Ameiko seems to brush this off with a bit of humor, but you can tell that last bit about her mother stings.  She thanks you for stepping in to help by offering a second free week of stay, since you are further in to your first week.

That night Kiirion decided to take a look out at Junkers Edge, feeling as if they may have hit a dead end.  On his way out, hidden in the shadows was none other than Shayliss Vidner.  Still using her "rats in the basement" story, she makes it clear that Kiirion is the only adventurer she wants cleaning her basement out… but being the rogue that he is, his smooth words and convincing tone causes her to give up her chase with no hard feelings.  Also Kiirion found nothing out at Junkers Edge.

The next day, the group decides to go and talk to the mayor and see what's happening and try and make sense of what's going on.  They quickly discover that they were expected, and the mayor is in the company of the Sheriff and a new acquaintance, Ameiko Kajitsu.  After some introductions Ameiko reveals the reason for her earlier than normal visit to the town.  She says that the 5 goblin tribes are working together, which is unusual, and that the only way this would happen is if someone was leading them.  She states that she is going out to find more information, and the Sheriff says that he is planning a trip to Magnimar in order to secure some soldiers for Sandpoint, even if only for a few weeks.  He asks for your group to stay behind and be a presence for the town.  The town has grown to trust you for the most part anyway, and it would help to know you were there in the absence of their sheriff.  You agree, though your wandering hearts want to get out.  Well, you're about to have your chance.

The next morning the halfling that helps at the Rusty Dragon, Bethana Corwin, finds you and tells you that she has not seen Ameiko, but she found this note (link), and as the only law in town you have to follow up.  This brings you to the Glassworks, which Kiirion scales to see what he can see from the skylights.  He sees several goblins playing with body parts and a very dead Lonjiku Kajitsu partially covered in molten glass, on a chair.  The group decides to go in, attempting to lure the goblins out, but end up having to go in to dispatch them.  After a very misguided attempt to drag Evrain into a furnace, the group takes out all eight of the goblins in the room.  Clearly there is more to explore here in the Glassworks.  But not just yet. Until next time…

Note – sorry this is so far behind!  I'll try to be better next time, maybe I'll send it out in smaller chunks.  I'm sure I missed some stuff or glossed over other things, but you get the drift.  I know that it's not a necessary part of the game, but it certainly helps keep everything together!  Thanks for playing!!

Beautiful Women, Rats, and Skeletons!
You never go alone...

Moonday, Rova 23, 4707

The party wakes up on Moonday ready to figure out what is next, deciding first to sell of some of the gear that they found while defending against the goblins.  On their way to the shops, a beautiful woman named Shayliss Vinder approaches the group, saying that she is in need of assistance.  Kirion immediately catches her eye and she directs most of the conversation at him.  She appears to have a rat problem and her father is too busy dealing with her “loose” sister Katrine who is shacking up with one of the workers at the lumber mill.  When a couple of the other party members mention that they could come along and help, she insists that it’s not big enough for all the party members, just big enough for one, Kirion.  When Kirion insists that he will not go alone, she decides that she no longer needs his help and storms off, leaving the party confused.

After wheeling and dealing at the local armory, Savah’s Armory, owned by Savah Bevanky, the party runs into the Sheriff, who oddly enough seemed to be out looking for them.  He takes the time for more formal introductions and then thanks you for your service to the community.  Of course, this is not the only reason he has come to see you.  It appears that there was a disturbance at an important vault, the grave of Father Ezakien Tobyn, in the Sandpoint Boneryard.  Although he is sure that it really is nothing, Father Zantus has asked him to check it out.  The Sheriff figured since you all seemed to be fairly adept and already a bit engaged in their current situation he would like to have you all along.  Upon deeper investigation Kirion notices goblin and humanoid footprints.  Once they enter the vault a bigger surprise awaits, two animated skeletons!  After dispatching them quickly, they find a robe of bones that seems to have been used up.  Also and more importantly, they notice that the remains of Ezakien have been taken.  The Sheriff can offer no ready response as to why they would steal the remains of the town’s previous priest, but the party quickly surmises that it seems the raid may have been a distraction to cover up whatever this is.

The Swallowtail Festival
Goblin Raid and Fire Sticks!

Sunday, Rova 22, 4707

At the opening of our newest adventure, our party finds itself at the Swallowtail Festival in Sandpoint.  This is the consecration of the new cathedral that had been burned down 5 years earlier.  After some enthralling, and maybe less than enthralling, speeches by Mayor Deverin, Sheriff Belor Hemlock, Cyrdak Drokkus, and Father Zantus, our party enjoyed some of the festivities!  Uldar Anafi, our stout and slightly arrogant halfling, entered the weightlifting competition.  To everyone’s astonishment he managed to win some competition!  The other competitors complained that he did not have to bring the deadlift up very far due to his stature, but a win's a win!  Our dashing rogue, Kirion Wirnn entered into the sack race.  He hopped, and he snuck, but in the end a bit of a stumble cost him the prize!  He ended in fourth place.  Novelle Olwen decided to join the hide and seek game, which made Uldar decide to join as well.  Novelle made it far, but near the end was found.  Uldar, managing to fit himself into a tiny basket in a vendor's cart, won the day once again!  Some grumbling from the other competitors rose again, saying that no “normal” sized person could fit in a basket, but in the end it was decided that there was no rule against being small.  Our ranger Evrain decided not to partake in the festivities of strength, stealth, or agility, but of drink!  He spent the day in the mead tent, singing songs and dancing jigs with his fellow revelers.  Uriel could be seen wandering the crowds, but oddly being eyed and followed by many people.  She kept herself covered, uneasy with the attention, aware that her divine heritage usually brought some stares.  But this crowd seemed even more enamored with her than usual, but the constant speeches and sport kept the crowd from making a bigger deal of the situation.

At the moment of the consecration, that’s when the goblins struck.  Several troops of them came after our adventurers, and each one was put down with great speed and agility. To everyone's surprise, Evrain was neither poisoned or diseased.  Father Zantus offered some healing in the midst of the battle which allowed our adventurers to continue on.  After hearing cries for help and the yelp of another unsuspecting dog being slain, our group surprised a handful of Goblins and one of their commandos cornering a man they came to know as Aldern Foxglove.  Once they dispatched the goblins, Aldern thanked them profusely, especially our druid Novelle, for their bravery in rescuing him.  He invited them to where he is currently staying, the Rusty Dragon, for a drink.  Once again, he is mostly interested in Novelle showing up, but indicated that everyone is invited.

With that final battle the goblin raid seemed to be repelled and the remaining goblins left in whatever way they could go, some even running off the cliff to their own demise.  One such goblin was captured but gave up very little under interrogation.  The only useful piece of information was that it was a “longshanks” who had told them to raid Sandpoint.  Beyond that he had no other useful information.  Before you could figure out what to do for the night, Ameiko Kaijitsu, a local innkeeper and owner of the Rusty Dragon, thanked you for your bravery in defending her town and offered your entire party free rooms for the week.  Grateful, you all accepted and spent the night at the Rusty Dragon.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
